Oh I love giving feedback. I sometimes don't like receiving it. Especially from students. But I think I need to become much more open to hearing what those in my class everyday have to say #OklaEd
I do not believe a well managed classroom is silent, military style, I believe we all have a voice and have the right to be heard. #oklaed remember that when you #observeme
No one is above #observeme. If we are truly in the profession to better ourselves and be lifelong learners, then we must be open to others giving us feedback to improve. #oklaed
As teachers we should always seek feedback. We can easily miss things we bought we were doing but aren’t #observeme gives us the opportunity improve what we do. #oklaed
Two goals. First, and most important, to connect authentically with each Ss I serve. Secondly...we are blessed with 3D printers across the curriculum at the Wood. It is fun watching Ss get excited about this and wanting to start designing. Will integrate into math. #oklaed
Never heard of #observeme before today, but we do something similar with "Pineapple Weeks" - love the idea of bringing other Ts into the classroom. It is great for reflection and keeps me on my toes! Plus, I love getting to observe others as well! Great PD! #oklaed
At DCHS we all have an #observeme posted. Something we do well and some we need to improve on. Teachers visit each other’s rooms and exchange ideas. #oklaed Great to use with 1st year teachers.

I am a strong believer in feedback. I have my students do a self-assessment each week and one of the questions is "What can Mrs. Minden do to help you understand something better?" #oklaed
#observeme sounds like an invitation to have colleagues, or possibly others, to come watch the art of teaching. I believe when observations are done regularly and the feedback is honest and genuine then the teaching process is improved. #oklaed
Feedback is always welcomed as long as a solution/suggestion is provided with the feedback. As longs as we collectively choose to be a part of the solution and not the problem, I welcome it! #oklaed

There is a benefit to observe me, it is another data point..I am rarely observed and I think it would be good for others to be able to back me up for teaching. #oklaed
A potential con with #observeme - somebody walking into your room with no idea of what you have been doing - what your routines are - this could be completely different than what one is used to and lead to some unhelpful feedback #oklaed

I’ve had several peers observe me from several different districts, it’s always a fun experience for all of us- I love the feedback, and it helps me stay reflective- making sure I’m always challenging myself (not just my students!) #oklaed#pdbearchat

At K20, we call #observeme being "critical friends". We will professionally give one another feedback on ways to improve and better what we have to offer others.
If we want the best product possible for our client (ie. students), then why wouldn't we be open to that? #oklaed
#oklaed Does it just have to be a teacher that comes in to observe? What about students who are in the same class but with a different teacher? I am doing this idea with another teacher. Her class comes in once a week or we go her class and have Socratic discussions & projects.

I️f a teacher is struggling in a particular area, I️ find a teacher that does it well and have them visit their classroom. Hasn’t any problems getting them into each other’s rooms. #oklaed
Next year that is going to change, but moving with the #Observeme concept there are ways to arrange for teachers to observe others. I think it is an untapped resource that can lend insight into how others do it in all subject areas. #oklaed
If you walk into my classroom to #observeme please be open minded and give way to my procedures, my classroom rules, etc. we have to go in open minded and not to judge. You are there to offer feedback but also to learn. #oklaed
You can absolutely use students!!! They are sometimes the best people to observe. Just make sure the form you are giving them to use doesn’t allow to give you useless info #oklaed

We’re having some more observers from Tulsa in a couple of weeks (I’m in Noble)- I think it’s helpful to me to hear about what they do in class, they might be observing me, but I spend lots of time getting new ideas too! #oklaed#pdbearchat

#oklaed We are doing our first Pineapple Schedule this Tues.!! For years, Ts have asked to each other, but it’s hard to get them to put themselves out there, so admin. set it up.
The best thing about #observeme is that it isn't a canned eval. I feel like formal evaluations are too easy to "fake." I want real feedback on a normal day when I don't necessarily know someone is coming. #oklaed
I also know a lot of people doing it with ipads.. so you don't have the observer effect (ie. kids being good). We have a Kubi Robot (@RevolveRobotics ) where the observer can control where the iPad is pointing. #oklaed
Agreed! Sometimes we may not be willing to own it publicly but the feedback may be working in the background daily... and hopefully for it will make us better we will eventually embrace it!! #oklaed#observeme

The main thing I gather is in order for this to really be effective locally first, then district wide is there has to be a safe space and an AMAZING culture implemented first.

Wow. I only had 1 and 4 on my list as well. My other pros:
1. Data on for me to see if I am reaching my goal
2. Ability to control my own development
3. Its a real evaluation. Especially by students. They don’t care about my feelings at the high school level #Oklaed
It can be hard - maybe the teacher you want to observe has the same planning period. For this to work it needs to be intentional and have some support from admin #oklaed

I’ve asked teachers to observe each other for years. We all learn so much from observing & being observed by peers. It develops a rich culture. #oklaed

I would suggest starting small like your department. Ask them to come just for 10 minutes on a planning period. If you don’t think that would work. Try sharing what your students have said and how it has helped you. #Oklaed
I think it would be beneficial for #Observeme to occur at all levels, not just the teacher in the classroom. I know we host others to come in and observe but to have instructional rounds with our own teachers may be a good experience for all involved. #oklaed

The pineapple is the Hawaiian symbol for hospitality, so a schedule that welcomes visitirs to the classroom. The problem is that Ts don’t want to brag. Admin just picked a day and asked Ts to tell us what they were doing that day and if visitors were welcome. #observeme#oklaed

i really like #observeme but i work at a school where walking into someone's classroom unannounced is the norm. we are all very open and collaborative. so i see the hesitation some might have but for me it works! #oklaed

Last concern (well it's not really a concern tho)
Teaching can be subjective, especially when rubrics are concerned. Ts have to be on the same page and decide how the rubrics would be graded.

Peer observation is a part of PLC and many other platforms The idea of a teacher welcoming someone anyone to walk in by posting it on her door is awesome #observeme#OklaEd
i also would love to see more people that come to tour our school and my classroom actually USE the #observeme sign outside my door so i get the feedback and you just don't go to a conference room and talk about me without letting me know what you saw. help a sista out! #oklaed

I don't believe it is different. A peer observation in iObservation can occur along a #observeme visit. The peer to peer observations are private and the discussions can be helpful. #oklaed
I think the venue, method, formality in which the feedback is given is much more growth focused w/#observeme as opposed to an "official scored evaluation" IMHO #observeme#oklaed

- Asking Ts/As to focus on specific things (with the sign outside the door), helps them to hone in on those specific things and not other parts of the lesson.
- This could show your admins that you're really working on your craft before/after the observation.
Don’t wait for someone to come! If you are doing great things or even if you are struggling, extend the invitation! Takes away ALL the uncomfortableness #oklaed
and it's gotta start in your own grade level team and building. have each other's back! be open to learning from each other! take the suggestions and the help when you need it! we want our kids to have a growth mindset then we need ones as well! #oklaed

- (For some) it'll help people communicate effectively. Using sentence starters, rephrasing how to approach the difficult conversations with tact vs. tactless.
If you aren't prepared to grow when you post #observeme on your door, take it down and go back to your own island of teaching, your kids will suffer for it and you will be miserable and its obvious that your administrator hasn't provided quality feedback to you #oklaed

I found an important component with teacher-on-teacher observations is the time to debrief afterward. If there is a more active partner puts themselves in the vulnerable place first to set the tone. #oklaed

lots of teachers I’ve talked to have the “I’m not good enough/“cool enough” mentality and feel very intimidated, but they’d probably be very surprised at the peer feedback they would get! (Plus, it takes away the whole preparation anxiety phase) #oklaed#pdbearchat

There is so much to learn about giving and getting feedback. It really just comes down to being brave enough to put yourself out there. It can be over formalized which often takes away from the authenticity. #OklaEd

Agree! We schedule observation rounds open to all Ts & ask specific Ts if we can visit. Love seeing the joy/surprise on their faces that we want others to see their practice #oklaed
lots of teachers I’ve talked to have the “I’m not good enough/“cool enough” mentality and feel very intimidated, but they’d probably be very surprised at the peer feedback they would get! (Plus, it takes away the whole preparation anxiety phase) #oklaed#pdbearchat
I think that #ObserveMe can foster growth, but ONLY if meaningful feedback is provided. I also think that the observer should be open to learning as well. However, chaos is chaos so you can’t call disorder a “difference in procedures” #OklaEd
There is so much to learn about giving and getting feedback. It really just comes down to being brave enough to put yourself out there. It can be over formalized which often takes away from the authenticity. #OklaEd

Years ago, I saw a strategy I developed for ELA being used in a math class by a teacher I hadn’t coached. She saw it in a class I coached and adapted it. That’s how #observeme SHOULD work! #oklaed

Our first year of dong instructional rounds was completely voluntary...but eventually we just consider it a norm. When we bring new people on our team, we are clear...you'll have visitors in your classroom, you'll likely be video recorded often, and just our way ;) #OklaEd
I like the idea of #observeme for Admins, how to accomplish it effectively is a challenge. Most want meaningful feedback and those surveys don't provide it. You have any ideas for making it work? #oklaed
#oklaed College professors should observe teachers, and teachers should observe college classes. I'm not talking about new teachers; I'm talking about veteran teachers. It's just one of the steps to help us bridge the gap between high school and college. #observeme
I see #OklaEd is talking about observations. Some of #OklaEd is using the New Visions for Public Schools math curriculum which has instructional routines embedded in it. (1/2)
might depend on what you want out of it but someone that's not in education could come in and answer questions like 'are my students collaborating?' or 'can they articulate what they are working on?' but that's what i want so i get why others might be hesitant to use it! #oklaed
I always try to be a positive presence in the room. A source of support. An external perspective that seeks only to promote growth. Ultimately, I let the lesson PLAN guide my observation, but enjoy when authentic learning/engagement is present and visible. Be confident! #OKLAED

You could use iObservation to do a peer observation without it counting toward your evaluation score. It could be a place where the two are able to store their discussion and feedback. If the iObservation format scares Ts then this concept will too. #oklaed#Observeme

One of our BEST and NBCT started working with an instructional coach and others were shocked! When she put herself out there as always willing to improve...many others followed suit. Her willingness to inspired others to be open as well. #OklaEd
