iSolveIt: MathScaled
Use logic to place the correct shapes on the scale to make it balance

Why we love this app

Like MathSquared, this is a free app from the same company iSolveIt. It's designed specifically for kids, and has no ads or in-app purchases. Unlike MathSquared, I've really come across no other app that is similar to MathScaled. It does have a similar interface to MathSquared, allowing users to log in so multiple users can access the app on the same iPad and work at different levels.

What it teaches and how it works

MathScaled is an app that has a scale at the top that the user must balance using the shapes that are offered at the bottom. The user must logically deduce the "weight" of the shapes based on the information that is given. Level one begins with one scale, and you can progress to Level five which offers four more scales hanging off the main one. In each level, you can also choose amongst three, four, or five shapes.

Why your kid won't be able to put it down

Unlike many math apps that are really just "drill and kill," this one presents a unique challenge that promotes algebraic thinking in a fun way. Students will enjoy the gradual increase in challenges as they develop new reasoning skills to be applied in the next level.
