Why we love this app
Montessori Geometry allows kids to independently explore and identify shapes. This app may not be as flashy as others, but it is a good teaching tool. It's great because kids hear the names of the shapes repeatedly throughout the games and exploration features. There are a few games where kids earn points and then receive medals based on how many points they earn. It takes a lot of practice and game playing to accrue enough points to earn a medal!
What it teaches and how it works
The Geometry Cabinet and Shape Glossary help kids identify the names of shapes and allows them to explore the different shape features. Shapes are categorized into quadrilaterals, curvilinear figures, polygons, etc. The 3-D shape tool shows kids how 2-D shapes can piece together to create 3-D forms. Kids can manipulate the shapes by spinning them around to count edges, vertices, and faces. One interesting game is the Shape Finder. In this game, kids select all the shapes they can find within a picture that belong to a specific shape category. The picture shown is a kid version cartoon pic of a world famous place or structure.
Why your kid won't be able to put it down
The games are just OK, but kids do like to earn points and medals for jobs well done.
